Hertfordshire County Ladies’ Golf Association
|
|
is not only about golf! |
|
|
 |
We usually hold three
Bridge Drives a year in November, January and March, at different
Clubs throughout the County. The format of the Bridge Drives changes
between Rubber and Chicago, progressive or not. They all
follow the same pattern – 11.00 am start, break for lunch
half way through, and finishing at around 3 pm. There is a raffle,
as well as prizes for bridge, and usually a slam prize as well. |
|
Two of these Bridge
Drives are held in order to raise funds to support our junior
girls and cadets through The Holloway Fund, which was set up
in 1980 to provide financial assistance towards the
development of junior golf. The third Bridge Drive
contributes towards the much needed costs associated with
County 1st Team golf. The more success our
team has, the greater the expense incurred! |
 |
|
|
All the Bridge Drives are happy, social occasions held when the
weather may not be enticing us out on to the course. They also
provide an opportunity for those whose golfing days may be less
frequent or are over altogether to remain involved in the County
Association and to enjoy contact with the many friends made through
this wonderful game. |

On 29th March we
held a County bridge Drive at Porters Park Golf Club |
|
100 Ladies representing 16 clubs throughout the County supported the
Progressive Chicago Bridge Drive. We were personally greeted by the
Lady Captain of Porters Park Diana Keen and the County Captain Ann
Green. |
|
Thanks are due to Peter
Marshall for allowing us use of the Club House. As always we were
well catered for by Tim McRae and his staff, who provided a
delicious lunch and surprised us all by including fresh salmon on
the menu with accompanying salads. Thanks also to Adrian and his bar
staff for their attention to the ladies requirements. I am
personally indebted once again to Liz Copley who was there early in
the morning to supervise setting out the tables. |
|
Julie Nedza Vice
Captain Herts and Sally Attrill a member from Hadley Wood were very
persuasive selling raffle tickets. The profit for the day came to a
very respectable £420.00. I am grateful to all the ladies who kindly
donated raffle prizes and to the County President Joan Jackman who
was on hand to present the prizes. |
|
Thanks are also due to all those
ladies who regularly support these events and hope to see many of
you in the Autumn at Hammonds End Harpenden on Wednesday 13th
October 2010 for a Chicago Bridge Drive. |
