First Team 2008 Reports

Friendly Match v Ashridge Men - 29th March 2008 at Ashridge GC.

On a day which started warm and sunny and finished wet and windy, the first team struggled against the Ashridge men’s scratch team.
The morning matches were all very close with 3 of them being settled on the 18th which is a par 4 for the men and a par 5 for ladies. Congratulations to Steph McEvoy and Lucy Glyn on their battling half.
After a wonderful lunch the weather had turned chilly with occasional squally showers and, apart from Alison and Harriet’s win against the captain of the day Glenn Harrington and Chris Hewitt, we lost the remaining matches. Well done again to Steph and Lucy for taking theirs down the 18th - always a difficult hole to have to win.
It was very pleasing to see Tina Jeary playing after her injury and illness problems. She had not been able to play even 18 holes for several months so to survive 36 was very encouraging and, hopefully, a good omen for the future.

After a very windy night, the gales had thankfully subsided by lunchtime. The sun came out to welcome us although a stiff breeze still swirled around the course making club selection very difficult.
The team were all determined to reverse last year’s defeat against a strong Surrey side; and with 5 wins, 2 halves and only one lost match that was exactly what they did - with 2 members of the junior team playing, it bodes well for the future.
