Hertfordshire Champion Lucy Williams from Mid Herts Golf Club won the English Women’s Open Mid-Amateur Championship at Wallasey Golf Club on 15th August beating Warwickshire’s Charlotte Dalton 4 & 2 in a spectacular final.

With the top 32 going through to the matchplay stages, Lucy had scores of 74, 79 to qualify in joint 8th place with Brocket Hall’s Charlie Douglass (74, 79) and Moor Park’s Clare Partridge (78, 75).

Charlie lost a tight match to Lancashire’s Karen Heywood in the first round and Clare beat Holly Calvert, also from Lancashire, 3 & 2 before going out to semi finalist Nicole Whitmore from Woburn, 1 down.

Lucy was 5 under par when she won, wrapping up her match on the par 3 16th where her 3 wood tee shot hit the hole! Her 2 ft putt was conceded for the match.

Lucy will be leading the county team when we head to Long Ashton in Bristol on 15th - 19th September for the National county finals.

South East Championships at Chipping Norton Golf Club in Oxfordshire
In an exciting final Ellis Keenan (Sunningdale, Surrey) beat Sian Evans (Faversham, Kent) 2/1.  In the morning Ellis had a very tight  match against Katherine O'Connor (Tadmarton Heath, Oxon.) winning 2/1.  Sian had a convincing win against Tilly Holder (Magnolia Park, Oxon.) 7/6.
Unfortunately Harriet Key and Lucy Williams were knocked out in the first round and Hannah Burke in the second round.  They obviously put all their energies into winning the Shield for Hertfordshire and we are so proud of them.
