Junior Spring Meeting

Aldwickbury Park – Sunday 27th April

Another great turn out on what had promised to be a fairly wet, damp Spring day. Most of the main course competitors started in the rain but fairly soon the umbrellas were down and the jackets off. Fortunately the rain stayed at bay and the girls were able to enjoy the wonderful views from the hills surrounding Harpenden.

Definitely not the flattest course in Hertfordshire and some steeply inclined ‘slopes’ challenged the fitness and stamina of the girls (and those watching!) However there were some excellent results and some wonderful golf played.

Congratulations to Nicola Callander from Mill Green who scored a fantastic 42 points to become this years Spring Cup Champion.

Runner up (also from Mill Green) was Jane Withers (left) with 38 pts and in third place was Kirsty Wells from Letchworth with 37 pts. (right)  All great scores for an early season competition.

Winning the top prize for girls with handicaps between 28-36 was Rosie Swain 35pts (left) and Runner up was Emma Bailey.(right)

The two nearest the pins were won by Katherine Hurworth and Emily Chan. Best front nine was won by Heather Last (19) and best back by Ella Ofstedahl (20pts)
Meanwhile on the par 3 course......

....... there was more excellent golf being played!

Twenty girls ranging in age from 6 upwards were competing with each other for the best gross score over nine holes. Although this was played in age group divisions (10 & under,11 & over) the outright and overall winner was Georgia Oboh age just seven!! She had a fantastic gross score of 34.

In second place was Emily Scott, 35, (left) and third was Holly Watson with 39. (right)

The winner of the 10 and under competition was won by Gemma Brinkworth shooting 38 (left) and the 11 and over by Rebecca Trodden, 36.(right)

Our thanks to Aldwickbury Golf club for providing a lovely venue and great facilities. Thank you to Rosemary Barker for coordinating the Main course Stableford and to Jill Callander for organising the par 3 competition.

Congratulations once again to all of the girls. A pleasure to watch and see so many girls within the county enjoying their golf – keep it up!
