Herts girls travel well!!!

Now that it’s school summer holidays our girls have been taking the opportunity to play golf far and wide.

Up in the North East of England, at Ramside Golf Club, Nicola Callander (Mill Green) came a very commendable 7th out of 21 entries in the EWGA Abraham Trophy. In the EWGA English Girls Under 13s Alice Hewson (Berkhamsted) came 19th whilst Emily Chan (South Herts) came 12th in a field of 80 in the Under 15s competition.

Over at Durham City Golf Club, Lucy Goddard (Mid-Herts) reached the Quarter Finals of Flight 2 of the English Girls (under 18s). In a tremendous battle she lost on the 21st hole!! (Both Lucy Goddard and Alice Hewson had not long returned from California where they played in a Calloway Junior competition).

Ella Ofstedahl (Mill Green) meanwhile was playing in the Wee Wonders World Finals at Pinehurst, North Carolina. In a truly international field of 77 Ella came a tremendous 18th.

Well done to all of these girls and good luck to those playing in the South East Championship at Copthorne on Thursday, 7 August.

Emily Chan plays in National Schools Final
The English Schools’ National Championship was held at Kendleshire GC (Bristol) on 29 & 30 June. The weather was excellent and the course was very challenging.
It was a marvellous experience for Emily who came T11 out of 27 of the country's top girl golfers including Hannah Barwood.  Emily's achievement was all the greater as she was one of the higher handicappers in the competition.
It continues what is proving to be a very good year for the 14 year old from South Herts Golf Club.

Monthly competition at Berkhamstead

 Sunday May 18th

Six girls competed at Berkhamstead for the second monthly stableford  of the year on a beautiful but windy day.
The course was in excellent condition, and proved to be very challenging even although there are no bunkers!
The winner was Alice Hewson who scored a fantastic 44 points on her home course, followed by Emily Chan with 33 points.

Monthly Competition at Knebworth

Sunday 9th March

Our first monthly competition was held at Knebworth GC and great to see a keen group of girls competing on a somewhat dull and damp day. For many it was the first 18 holes after the winter period and the conditions were not easy.
This didn’t seem to deter anyone and the girls set of full of enthusiasm and keen to have a good time. The course played long but fortunately the weather held out for most of them (the last group were caught in a nasty hail storm!).
For a first competition the results were fantastic and the eventual winner, Alice Hewson scored a massive 43 points. Emily Chan was runner up with 38 points and most of the  other girls played within their buffer .
Well done to all -  an excellent days golf in quite difficult conditions!

Scottish U16 Girls Open

One of our Hertfordshire girls recently travelled to Scotland for the Scottish U16 Girls Open.  Emily Chan from South Herts competed alongside 102 International players from England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and a team from Italy.
The competition was played in Craigelaw Golf Club which proved to be a challenging ‘links’ course . Despite this Emily played very consistent golf over the two days (81, 82) and finished tied 27th overall.  This is an excellent result within a very strong field.
