Hannah's
at it
again.... |
|
Hannah
Burke
from
Mid
Herts
was
the
top
English
player
in the
European
Ladies
stroke
play
championships
held
between
21st-24th
July
in
Kuneticka
Hora,
Czech
Republic.
|
|
Hannah
had been
selected
to
represent
England
in the
competition
alongside
Hannah
Barwood
and
Rachel
Jennings
who
played
in the
Curtis
Cup,
Charlotte
Ellis
and
English
Champion
Hayley
Davis. |
|
For the
first
three
days
the players
had to
contend
with
really
hot
weather
but
Hannah
is used
to that
from her
time in
the
States
and
shot rounds
of 72,
68 and
72. In
her
second
round 68
Hannah
had six
birdies
and an
eagle.
In her
third
round
the
putts
were not
dropping
but she
had one
birdie
and one
bogey
and the
rest
pars to
finish
level
par. On
the
final
day the
conditions
changed
and in
rain and
colder
temperatures
Hannah
finished
with a
three
over par
75.
She finished
one
under
par in
eighth
place -
a great
performance!
The
winner
was
seventeen
year old
Sophie
Popov
from
Germany
who was
8 under
par.
|
|
Hannah
and
Lucy
Williams
also
from Mid
Herts
now
travel
to
Hillside
for
final
qualifying
on
Monday
26th
July for
the
British
Ladies
Open.
The top
15
players
will get
through
to play
at Royal
Birkdale
between
29th
July and
1st
August -
so good
luck to
them
both.

European

Champuionships |

Hannah
Burke
from Mid
Herts
and
Charlie
Douglass
from
Brocket
Hall
both
represented
England
in the
European
Team
Championships
held
between
6th -
10th
July at
La Manga,
Spain.
There
were six
members
in the
team,
the
others
being
Holly
Clyburn
from
Woodhall
Spa,
Hayley
Davis
from
Ferndown,
Hannah
Barwood
from
Knowle
and
Rachel
Jennings
from
Izaak
Walton.
Over the
first
two days
each
member
of each
team
played
stroke
play
with one
score
being
disregarded
on each
round to
get a
cumulative
total.
The
lowest
eight
countries
qualified
for the
top
flight
in the
match
play
over the
following
days.
|
 |
After
the
first
day
England
were in
second
place on
one
under
par with
Hannah
and
Charlie
both
shooting
one over
par
rounds
of 73.
On the
second
day
Hannah
shot 74
and
Charlie
76 to
help the
team
qualify
in third
place
and face
Scotland
who
qualified
in sixth
place.
|
|
In the
morning
foursomes
Charlie
and
Holly
lost to
Pamela
Prestwell
(who had
played
in the
recent
Curtis
cup)
and Laura
Murray 2/1
and
Hannah
and
Hayley
also
lost -
to
Kelsey
Macdonald
and
Louise
Kenney
3/1.
This
left a
tough
task in
the
afternoon
and
although
there
were
three
singles
wins
neither
Charlie
nor
Hannah
were
able to
avenge
their
morning
defeats
and the
Scots
won
overall
4-3.
|
|
The
following
day
England
played
the
Netherlands.
Hannah
beat
Caroline
Karsten
3/1 but
Charlie
lost 3/2
but the
overall
score
was a
good 3
1/2 to 1
1/2 win.
So on
the
final
day
England
played
France
for
fifth/sixth place.
Hannah
and
Charlie
played
together
in the
one
foursomes
match
but lost
4/3 and
there
was only
one
halved
match in
the
singles
which
meant
the
French
had a
convincing
4 1/2 -
1/2 win.
|
|
In the
gold
medal
match
Sweden
defeated
Spain
4-3.
England
will be
disappointed
not to
have
done
better
particularly
after
last
year
when
they won
the
silver
medal in
a close
run
match
but
Hertfordshire
can be
very
proud to
have two
players
in the
team -
well
done
Hannah
and
Charlie! |
 |
Hannah
continued
her
recent
successes
by once
again
leading
the
pre-qualifying
for the
British
Open
at The
Berkshire
with a
joint
best
score of
the
day -
a 4
under
par 68.
Hannah's
round
included
6
birdies
and she
now goes
forward
to final
qualifying
at
Hillside
Golf
Club
hoping
to make
it to
the Open
being
held
this
year at
Royal
Birkdale
between
19th
July and
1st
August.
|
|
Joining
Hannah
is Lucy
Williams
also
from Mid
Herts
who shot
a level
par 72 -
4
birdies
and 4
bogeys
to
qualify
in joint
12th
place.
Charlie
Douglass
just
missed
the cut
with a 2
over par
74. I am
sure we
all wish
Hannah
and Lucy
the best
of luck
in final
qualifying.

The

attracting
the
best
golfers
from
all
around
the
world. Even
to qualify
to
play
in the
36

stroke
play
the
handicap
limit
was
0.4.
|
|
Hannah
Burke
from
Mid
Herts
was
the
only Hertfordshire
player
who went
on to
qualify for
the
match-play
with
rounds
of 77
and
78.
Lucy
Williams
also
from
Mid Herts
shot
78 and
84 and
Charlie
Douglass
from
Brocket

shot
78 and
88.

In the
first
round
of the

Hannah
had a
close
match
but
lost
on the
19th
to
Thea

from

who
then
went
on to

her

CONGRATULATIONS

|
Hannah's
Success
continues |
|
Hannah
Burke
has
returned
from
Ireland
and
continued
her
excellent
golf by
winning
the
Astor
Salver
held at
the
Berkshire
Golf
Club on
9th
June.
Hannah
shot
rounds
of 69
and 67
on their
two
courses
to tie
the
record
score
for the
competition.
The CSS
for each
round
was 74
so
Hannah's
handicap
has gone
down to
plus 4 -
a
fantastic
achievement.

Huge
congratulations
to

from
Mid
Herts
who
won
the
Irish
Open
Stroke
Play held
at
Newlands
Golf
Club,
Dublin
on the
5th and
6th
June.
Last
year
Hannah
narrowly
missed
out on
winning
by
losing
on the
7th hole
of a
play-off
but this
year
Hannah
won in
style by
beating
the rest
of the
field by
an
amazing
5 shots.
After
two
rounds
of 71
and 72
on the
Saturday
Hannah
was
leading
by three
shots as
the best
forty
players
qualified
for
Sunday's
round. |

There
was
plenty
of Irish
rain on
the
Sunday which
caused play
to be
suspended
twice
during
the day
but this
obviously
didn't
stop
Hannah's
concentration
as she
went on
to shoot
a final
round 71
and
finish
on 214
ahead of
Australian
Justine
Lee on
219 and
Tara
Davies
from
Wales on
221. The
par for
the
course
was 73
and the
CSS for
the
three
rounds
was 76,
75 and
77 which
makes
Hannah's
scoring
even
more
fantastic!
|
|
Charlie
Douglass
from
Brocket
Hall
also
qualified
for the
final
round
with
scores
of 77
and 81
and
added a
75 on
the
Sunday
to help
England
into
second
place in
the team
competition
which
was won
by
Australia. |

Many

and
Ireland
side for
the
Curtis

In the
Helen
Holm
tournament
held
recently
at Troon
in
Scotland
Charlie
had the
best
round of
the
final
day with
a 70 but
eventually
finished
9 shots
behind
the
leader
with her
first
two
rounds
being 78
and 76.
Lucy Williams
had
started
well
with an
excellent first
round 70
but
finished
two
shots
behind
Charlie
in the
end with
further
rounds
of 77
and 79.
|
|
Lucy
had
played
well in
the
British
Universities
and
colleges
stroke-play
championships
also
held in
Scotland
at the
Dundonald
Links.
She had
rounds
of 80,
73, 73
and 74
compared
to the CSS
of 76,
76, 75,
76 and
finished
in
second
place.
As a
result
not only
has she
cut her
handicap
to plus
2 but
she has
also
been
selected as
the only
English
girl
in a
team of
3
to represent
the GB

in Spain
in June.

In

has
continued
her
fantastic

at
university
by
finishing
runner

the
Big 12
Conference
women's
championship
with
rounds
of 76,
71 and
71.
She
has
set
many

for
Baylor
University
in the
process
including
the
most
top
five
places
with
13 - 5
of
those
being
in
this year. She
was
also
named
for
the
third
time
in the
Big 12
All-tournament

on Tues
27
April. |
|
It was
noted to
be
rather
fitting
for her
as a
founder
and
current
member
to do it
in this
year
which we
are
celebrating
as our
Silver
Jubilee
of the
Ladies

In
February
Hannah
Burke
(Mid
Herts)
came
second
in the
Lady

Rico
Classic
College
tournament
held
in San
Juan.
Hannah
had
led
going
into
the
final

after
first
and
second
round
scores
of 69
but
finished
with a
74 to
lose
by 3
to the

champion Caroline
Hedwall.

In the
Sunningdale

ladies,
amateurs
or
professionals,
Harriet
Key
(South

playing
with
James
Jankowski
(Potters

in
the third

and
Charlie
Douglass
(Brocket

lost in
the
